Department of Finance Update on the Decentralisation Programme

December 2009

 

The following decisions have been made by the Minister for Finance in relation to the Decentralisation Programme:

 

  1. The PPP Midlands Bundle (Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment to Carlow, Department of Education & Science to Mullingar and Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Food to Portlaoise) will not proceed.
  2. The Portlaoise project (Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Food) will proceed on a traditional procurement basis.
  3. The other priority projects announced in last year’s Budget (October 2008) and not yet approved – Carlow, Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment; The Curragh, Defence Forces; Claremorris, Office of Public Works; Charlestown, Department of Community Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs; Drogheda, Department of Social & Family Affairs; and Mullingar, Department of Education & Science - will be deferred on affordability grounds pending the overall review of the Decentralisation Programme in 2011.
